Have you ever thought about why we watch and listen to the things that we do? There are so many mediums for entertainment . Cable TV, high speed internet, books, ebooks, live shows and concerts all provide plenty of content.
New content is always being created everyday. If you did nothing but watch Youtube videos the rest of your life, you wouldn’t come close to watching all of their videos. But why do we invest so much time in content? I believe people are entertained by content that reinforces what they already believe to be true on a deep level.

How many times have you found yourself sitting in a movie theater, or laying in bed watching Netflix, and you find yourself cheering on the “good guy(s)”. We want the X-Men to win and we want Frank Underwood to become the President, because on a deep level we identify with them and their view of the world.
In that moment we agree with that characters values and beliefs. So we align ourselves with their cause, and we want them to succeed. Remember it’s all fake! These are actors on a stage acting out a fake drama, but the emotions feel real.

What about music? Do we listen to artists we believe in? Maybe… or maybe the different elements of a song come together to trigger an emotional response (excitement, camaraderie, love, lust, anger, peace, etc.).
Emotions are very addictive, and it’s the reason listeners come back for more. If an artist can evoke a powerful emotional response from their listeners, they will create a powerful fan base.

Well that’s my 2 cents for the day. Right now I’m listening to The Washington Journal, trying to keep up with House of Cards, and I listen to Serius XM BPM station for awesome dance music.
What about you? tell me what you think about what entertainment is. Below are some cool pics I pulled from the internets... enjoy!
